Essential Information

Appearance: Japanese-American, big bright glasses, dark brown eyes and hair. Of medium height but with the energy of a short person trying to feel tall. Tends to stick to work-appropriate wear but adds goofy-print ties and socks to "brighten herself up". Favours wearing her hair up in high ponytails with cutesy hair-ties.

Personality: Bubbly, friendly and with a tendency towards playing the goofball, Machiko is keen to please and eager to be of assistance. This disposition (paired with her relative youth) has lead her to become a "mascot" of sorts for Major Crimes. Machiko's need to keep the peace has lead her to having a need to Keep The Peace. While a bit of a doormat, Machiko takes her job as an officer of the law very seriously - which usually manifests in the form of doing everyone else's paperwork.

Family: Machiko moved from Kyoto to Manhattan with her parents as a child to help care for her aunt after an accident. Machiko's mother, Kimiko, works in pharmacology and her father, Takeru, works as a lawyer in finance. Most of Machiko's childhood was spent being cared by and caring for her aunt. Time has caused Machiko to distance herself from her family but she forever looks to her aunt as her inspiration and aspiration.

History: Machiko and her parents moved in with her aunt at age four to be closer to both her and Machiko's maternal grandmother(who also lives in Manhattan). Machiko's spent a few years in middle school experiencing daily harassment because of her Japanese heritage. Machiko's aunt managed to find out about the bullying despite her niece's diligence in pretending all was well and soon after this discovery several of Machiko's harassers either made amends or found themselves suspended for previously covered up acts of vandalism and assault.

Upon completing high school, Machiko attended a local university to gain a joint-degree in criminal justice and social work. Six months in Manhattan's Police Academy and a brief stint as a beat cop later, Machiko found herself promoted to the rank of probationary detective. She spent her probationary period serving in a quiet Bloomview district not far from her grandmother's apartment building.

Recently, Machiko was moved from her precinct in the suburbs of Manhattan to Central's Major Crimes unit. She currently serves as Detective Joe Kong's partner and spends much of her time trading off typing up other cops' reports and making coffee in exchange for learning the ropes from some of Manhattan's best. Machiko had begun gophering for the other coppers for nothing but smiles and the odd pat on the head but eventually the other officers realised the newbie wasn't so much trying to suck up to them but was simply too good-natured for her own good. The current arrangement came about purely through collective guilt and some "gentle" nudging from Chief Angel.

Appearance: Evelyn Angel dresses exactly how she acts. Professional, seriously and with a certain attitude. It is very rare she is out of police uniform and when she is, she is always professional. She doesn't much care for fashion, but she ensure to keep up her corporate aesthetic, if nothing else.

Personality: She is committed to her work, more than some deem actually necessary. She spend many late nights at the office, and seems to only brighten up at the thought of a case coming to a close. To those who work with her, they will be met warmly. She refuses to speak on either vigilantes or superheroes, as a rule. She can be a little short-tempered, but that is because whenever you talk to her she is probably tired, stressed and running on coffee alone.

Family: Her only family are her parents, who lived just out of Seattle. They don't often visit, but it is known that a phone call from her mother is the only thing that will ever cause pause to one of Evelyn's cases.

With vigorous commitment and hard training, Evelyn became Police Commissioner in 5 short years and has held the title for a year now. She is passionate and committed in her work. Despite what records say, it is told that she is going through divorce proceedings, but no one apart from close friends has much information about it.
